Os cambios que se produciron no campo galego entre o século XIX e o XX, non poden ser entendidos sen o coñecemento da labor de persoas e colectivos, que loitaron por introducir e difundir no noso país os novos progresos técnicos que viñan do resto de España e Europa, sacando a Galicia da crise agraria de fins do século XX. Neste libro faise un percorrido sobre as transformacións que durante este período se levaron a cabo na Gandaría e Veterinaria galega, de mans do que foi un dos seus principais promotores, Juan Rof Codina (1874-1967). Co seu labor pedagóxico soubo canalizar as inquedanzas de renovación que agromaban no ámbito agropecuario, e reivindicar o papel protagonista que a profesión veterinaria demandaba para a súa dignificación.Nesta obra pioneira nos traballos históricos sobre a Veterinaria galega faise un estudo crítico e multidisciplinar da figura do que ata agora estaba considerado como o factótum dos progresos técnicos e da mellora da gandaría galega. Unha obra, pois, onde se recolle e se pon en valor, non só a obra hemerográfica de Rof Codina, senón que tamén se recupera unha parte importante da memoria gráfica para a historia agropecuaria galega, a través das achegas do seu fondo fotográfico.
